I was originally going to post this tomorrow night, but I listened to it tonight during supper, and I really thought it was great. I had a rough day at work, and felt really tired. My wife is out of town, so it's just me and the boys, and listening to this album while preparing our meal and then eating it, we all had a great time. It's happy, fun, carefree and well made. The Beloved have never let us down. This is them at their best.
Not much to say today, been busy. Have a great night!
And a little something extra for good measure...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM LIKE BONO LOVES SUNGLASSES. Seriously, I still can't believe that "Sweet Harmony" wasn't a gigantic monster hit single. The entire album is fantastic -- not one bad track to be hard. WHY OH WHY wasn't this band absolutely huge?! I think that if "Happiness" and "Conscience" had been released 4-5 years earlier than they were, they would have taken over the planet. Sadly, by the time they came along, people were obsessed with grunge (again, that's something you wipe off the bathroom tiles, NOT a form of music), and this band just fell through the cracks. Coulda shoulda woudlda been HUGE, in a perfect world.
ReplyDeleteThis 1990 song is so 2010s and 2020s. Ahead of its time!
DeleteBeautiful choice! So glad it worked its magic on you
ReplyDeleteOutstanding post as usual, sorry for not contributing, unfortunately no money=no pub=no connection. Must try harder -:)
ReplyDeleteEchoed my thoughts, Mr. (?) Angsty, Sweet Harmony should have been No. 1 for ages. The kind of track Pet Shop Boys make in their dreams (and yeah, I'm a big fan of theirs as well)
Haha, I'm a girl! My avatar is the lovely and talented actor Hugh Dancy. The picture is a screenshot of him in his role as Will Graham in the late lamented "Hannibal" tv show.
DeleteYeah, I love PSB too, but if I had to choose between them and the Beloved, Jon Marsh has it all over Neil Tennant.
Ever read "Ready Player One"? Miss Angsty? :)
DeleteNo, I haven't, but I just looked it up on Amazon and it sounds interesting! One of the two local libraries I have access to has it (I'm fortunate enough to live near the borderline between two counties in Virginia, so I have access within driving distance to one of the many libraries in each county, which rocks!), so I've put it on hold and plan to pick it up later this week!
DeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteLove the Beloved. Thanks for this post!
ReplyDeleteThank you as always. Here is another rendition of Sweet Harmony that for some wierd reason I find satisfying:

This album is a bit of a lost classic isn't it. A bit like Abracadabra by ABC, which basically set a template for deep house, and is all but forgotten today.
ReplyDeleteAnd ditto for Modernism A New Decade by Style Council (which Polydor refused to release, Style Council then split up, Paul Weller re-invented himself into a Rock God) see also Martyn Ware (Human League / Heaven 17 / The Milk Bottle Incident)
